NCC quota and grace marks in Telangana MBBS admissions: what the data shows

NCC candidates in Telangana MBBS counselling get two separate advantages: grace marks added to their NEET score, and a small dedicated quota of seats. Both leave visible fingerprints in the official lists, and both are reasons NCC admissions must be handled carefully when anyone computes a "general" cutoff.

Grace marks, visible in the merit list

The 2023-24 KNRUHS merit list contains roughly 128 rows that carry two extra numeric columns: the grace marks and the resulting boosted total. These candidates were ranked on their boosted scores, not their raw NEET scores. Their ranks therefore describe a different competition from everyone else's, and mixing them into general analysis quietly corrupts it.

A separate quota of seats

Beyond the marks, NCC candidates compete for a dedicated set of seats. In allotment lists these admissions carry the NCC tag in the Adm Details code. They are real admissions to real colleges, but they were won through a separate channel with far fewer competitors, so their ranks say nothing about what an unreserved candidate needs.

Why NCC rows are excluded from general cutoffs

When a cutoff is computed for general seats, rows carrying confirmed special-quota tags, NCC among them, are set aside first. The rule is deliberately strict: only rows with a confirmed tag and a sharp rank discontinuity are trimmed, and no more than a small fraction of any cell, so genuine merit outcomes are never discarded. An NCC admission fifty ranks from the pack is not evidence about the pack; it is evidence about the quota.

Our rank predictor separates special-quota admissions from general cutoffs before showing you anything, so the numbers you compare against describe your competition, not someone else's.
